AIR TRAVEL: fly to Frankfurt, from there it is a 1 - 1.5 hr journey by car, train or bus to Heidelberg.
For general information see http://www.frankfurt-airport.de
and the English site map http://www.frankfurt-airport.de/en/content.html
For example you may consult
for trains: http://www.frankfurt-airport.de/en/travel-planner/arrive-depart/train/time_table.html
for the airport bus: http://www.frankfurt-airport.de/en/travel-planner/arrive-depart/bus/airline_shuttle.html
The "Lufthansa Airport Bus" goes every 30 or 60 min. to Heidelberg directly or to Heidelberg via Mannheim (you do not have to fly Lufthansa). Price: DM 38,- per person; tickets can be purchased at the bus, no reservations needed. The bus has only one stopping point in Heidelberg (Marriott Hotel). From there it is only a short Taxi ride to any other hotel.
Heidelberg is also easy to reach by train. A new "Fernbahnhof" at the airport provides direct inter-city service going south every hour at xx:56 h. Take any train to Mannheim where there is a convenient connection with trains to Heidelberg.
Signs pointing toward the various transportation possibilities are visible when you leave the baggage claim and customs area in Frankfurt. There is also a ticket counter (DB, Deutsche Bundesbahn) in the lobby area.
Additional train connections are available from Frankfurt Main Station (Hauptbahnhof), which can be reached from the airport by the S-Bahn (Underground).
Rail Travel: The main north-south inter-city rail line, Frankfurt - Basel, always stops in Mannheim where convenient connections to Heidelberg are available (direction Munich). For general train schedules and planning see
