Compact NMR

B. Blümich*
  • RWTH Aachen University, ITMC, Aachen, Germany

In the last few years, compact NMR machines have become available which in addition to relaxation and diffusion measurements are capable of measuring spectra and images. While conventional NMR machines with superconducting magnets are hidden in the windowless dungeons of basements and hospitals shielded from the main pathways of people, compact NMR devices are at least transportable and can be set up next to the scene of action like inside the fume hood of a chemical laboratory or an excavation site. The tutorial provides an overview of compact instrumentation and NMR methods executable with such instruments for applications ranging form chemical analysis and reaction monitoring to nondestructive materials testing.
